We’ve been shortlisted!
I’m talking about the Industry Excellence Award (IEA) awarded by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia (MITI).
Admittedly, I was a bit lost at first. The IEA rang a bell, but it was faint and most likely it was the wrong bell. So I looked it up, and according to MITI’s website, they’ve been giving out the award since 2000 to Malaysian companies that have been developing their names into strong, recognizable brands.
MMU’s been shortlisted for the Services Professional category. MITI’s website states that nominees are rated for their branding strategy and marketing plan, recognitions received and quality assurance, among others.
Essentially, this means MMU = Strong Brand.
Tootin’ our own horn? Maybe. But I’m sure that’s allowed, since the award comes from an external, unbiased party. We definitely didn’t pay for it. So we will toot our own horn till we can toot no more, and then pass the horn to someone else to do the tootin’ for us.
As it turns out, MMU had previously won this award. It was in 2005 (before Facebook was opened to the public, so it might as well have been in the middle ages for some people), when MITI awarded us the Industry Excellence Awards 2004.
We still have the trophy in the Atheneum Gallery
It’s a pity they didn’t actually engrave MMU’s name on the trophy. I wonder what’s up with that. That trophy could easily have been someone else’s.
Luckily, we have these old newspaper cuttings
So there you have it. The award ceremony will be held on 24th March at the KLCC Convention Centre. I hope we win.
Go MMU!
